If you’ve visited our Normal store in the past 15.5 years, you might’ve been lucky enough to chat with Tony. Though he’s currently preparing for retirement, we were able to get a last chat with Tony about his journey at Sherman’s through the years. Read below to learn more about Tony!
What drew you to Sherman’s?
“I grew up in the LaSalle county area, so I had heard a lot about the Sherman’s Peru location. Eventually, I moved down to Normal, IL, and I was at a place in my career where I was ready to try something new. Funnily enough, Sherman’s popped up again!”
How would you describe the culture here?
“It’s positive. I feel we have the best store, the best products, and most importantly, the best people.”
What has your journey at Sherman’s been like?
“Looking back over my journey, I have no regrets. My focus was to become a good appliance salesman, and a huge part of that was learned from my co-workers. After 15.5 years, I hope that I’ve been able to teach the next generation how important it is to learn from each other. That’s the legacy I want to leave.”
Can you share one of your favorite Sherman’s memories with us?
One of my favorite memories was actually my retirement party. Paul was able to come, which was special. My teammates decorated the store with black balloons and other “negative” decor, like signs that read, “Glad to see you go!” I joked with every customer that came in, “Now you know the real reason I’m retiring!””
What advice do you have for someone new to Sherman’s?
“You get in what you put in. I like to say that sales isn’t rocket science, but if you try hard and be the best version of yourself, it will activate your own success.”
Tony has greatly contributed to Normal’s success over the years and we are honored to have a new mattress named after him at our Sherman’s Warehouse Clearance Center in Peoria Heights. Check out our “Tony” mattress on your next visit!
